Tonight was the dorm's Texas Hold 'em Poker tournament. I lost decisively on a single hand against my friend Brett G. who, ironically, I had invited along. Brett G, Doug, a guy named Mark, and I had been playing for maybe an hour when I went all in on a King/Ace hand. I never go all in. Tonight was further proof that I get burned every time I do. The final card dealt, a jack, completed Brett G's three of a kind, beat my two pair (that I was trying to bluff up a bit), and knocked me out of the game. That was a dumb move.

Update: About an hour after that pitiful experience, I wandered back down to the study lounge to see how Doug, Brett G, and Michael (who had joined in around the time I left) were doing. The tournament was still going strong, and I decided to join another game. This time I played in my usual conservative manner and managed to do rather well. Around 11:00, a bunch of people collectively decided to quit for the evening, so the remaining five of us, including Doug and Brett G., decided to redivide the chips and start a final late night round. Thanks largely to two incredibly lucky flushes, I quickly held an intimidating pile of fake money. By 12:45, Doug, Brett G., and I had knocked out both the organizer of the tournament and the girl who had dominated the table during the second game I joined. In true Hollywood fashion, the game ended when I threw down the fourth of the three aces already on the table.
