Seen north of Knox, Indiana next to an old railroad bed and train station. The building is bigger than it looks in the picture; about 10 feet off the ground and big enough to hold maybe two people. Any guesses on what it was used for?
What is this Building?

I believe “Mom” is right. It looks like a switchman or traffic manager’s tower. It was elevated because when the switch needed to be thrown on the far track the near track could have a train standing or passing which would block the view from the ground. If you make it up to Chicago and take the El there are several of these poking up above the level of the trains. The most famous is at the northwest corner of the loop, “the busiest rail intersection in the world.”
